Methane Emissions Mitigation Along Gas Value Chain

Methane Emissions Mitigation Along the Gas Value Chain – The Road Ahead For a Sustainable Future

TIME: 5 November 2019, 14:00-16:00
Venue: SALLE 6Q1, European Parliament

CONCEPT:

The Governance Regulation calls on the Commission to consider policy options for addressing methane emissions and to put forward a Union strategic plan for methane. The topic of methane emissions is also addressed under the strategy ‘A Clean Planet for all’. During the Gas Forum held in 2019 in Madrid, GIE (Gas Infrastructure Europe) and MARCOGAZ presented the findings of a co-lead report on the way the gas industry can contribute to the reduction of methane emissions. Several other initiatives and studies have been undertaken to better understand the scale of methane emissions, potential sources and opportunities for reductions. However, the work remains to be done to better measure and quantify the losses in the gas value chain, standardize methodologies and improve transparency. Speakers from the academia, industry, the EU institutions, regulators and NGOs will jointly discuss with the audience the efforts and activities related to managing methane emissions from the gas sector. This event will be an opportunity to exchange information and compare different approaches, and to discuss the future role of gas in a decarbonized energy mix.
